Case Studies

Deep-dives from real SMIN customers.

Four detailed stories — the problem, the solution, and the measurable business outcome. Anonymised where required, exact numbers where permitted.

6-week maiden JORC Inferred Resource on 12,000m of RC drilling.

Problem

Single-geologist junior needed to publish a maiden JORC 2012 Inferred Resource for a market-required ASX announcement inside 8 weeks, on a shoestring budget with no on-premise software.

Solution

Ingested 12,000 m of RC drilling through SMIN's automated column-mapping. Modelled implicit gold grade shells at a calibrated 0.4 g/t iso-value, ran Ordinary Kriging estimation with 25 m × 25 m × 5 m blocks, and generated a signed PDF technical report through the JORC 2012 template.

"SMIN turned what would normally be a 4-month, three-consultant exercise into a six-week, one-geologist push. The signed PDF report is now on our ASX filing."

Unifying 4 operating assets from 4 different desktop packages.

Problem

Different estimation methodologies, block model geometries, classification rules and reporting templates across four operating assets created board-level headache during quarterly reserves reporting.

Solution

Migrated Datamine, Vulcan, Micromine and Leapfrog projects onto SMIN with parallel-run validation. Codified a single house-style Ordinary Kriging methodology, unified 20 m block-model geometry, single slope-of-regression classification threshold and one reporting template per JORC and NI 43-101 code.

"One estimation methodology, one classification rule, one reporting template — across every asset. Reserves reporting used to be a monthly fire drill. Now it's a click."

Daily plan-vs-actual reconciliation via blast-hole API.

Problem

Monthly reconciliation between planned tonnes/grade and actually mined material was masking systematic dilution issues. Corrective actions were always a full month behind the anomaly.

Solution

Connected the daily blast-hole assay stream into SMIN via the REST API. Real-time comparison against the block model, with automatic anomaly alerts to the head-of-mine when dilution exceeded threshold.

"The dilution numbers had been lying to us for years. SMIN's daily reconciliation surfaced it inside the first quarter — the payback took two months."

40+ pit optimisation studies delivered in one calendar year.

Problem

A boutique consultancy's pit-optimisation practice was bottlenecked by legacy desktop LG solvers — 3-week turnaround per study, painful sensitivity sweeps.

Solution

Adopted SMIN as the internal pit-optimisation stack. Study kick-off, LG run, pushback design, and client-branded reporting all inside one platform. Sensitivity sweeps across 12 revenue factors run in the background.

"We doubled our billed studies without adding a single headcount. SMIN's LG solver and workspace collaboration were the two structural unlocks."
